[Verse 1]
The bread on the counter's still warm
Your shoes by the door got dew on the soles
We stole a minute from dawn
And made the quiet feel like gold
[Verse 2]
You held the paper cup tight
I traced the steam with my thumb and laughed
The whole block blinked open slow
While the gulls cut lines across the glass
[Pre-Chorus]
And if the day comes hard
We got the head start
Your hand in mine
Like a spark in the dark
[Chorus]
Early birds, we fly first
Wake the world up, take our turn
Early birds, we fly first
You and me, we learn, we learn
Early birds, early birds
We don't wait for the sun to burn
[Verse 3]
The bakery bell at six
The old red bike with the bent front wheel
We trade our plans for the road
And every small thing starts to feel real
[Pre-Chorus]
And if the day comes hard
We got the head start
Your hand in mine
Like a spark in the dark
[Chorus]
Early birds, we fly first
Wake the world up, take our turn
Early birds, we fly first
You and me, we learn, we learn
Early birds, early birds
We don't wait for the sun to burn
[Bridge]
Let the late ones dream
We'll be out here chasing steam
One more mile, one more laugh
Before the rest of them catch up
[Final Chorus]
Early birds, we fly first
Wake the world up, take our turn
Early birds, we fly first
You and me, we learn, we learn
Early birds, early birds
We don't wait for the sun to burn
