Well Papa's in the door
With a mean looking gun uh huh
And mama's in the window saying 'Son don't come'
My brothers eating up in the treetop high
Ready to jump on me as I come by
It ain't really funny but it's something to see
The way they try to keep my honey from me
CHORUS
I took a back trail
- To my baby's shack -
- I made my way right -
- up to the back - --
- I went over the meadow -
- And down by the brook -
- They don't know yet -
- That they're daughter's been took
Verse 2
Her Papa said he'd blow me
right out of this world
If he'd ever catch me around his girl
Her Mama said 'Now Daddy you know that ain't right'
Her brother say 'Yeah fuck it Jim are we gonna fight?'
It ain't really funny but it's something to say
The way they try to keep my honey from me
CHORUS
I took a back trail
- To my baby's shack -
- I made my way right -
- up to the back - --
- I went over the meadow -
- And down by the brook -
- They don't know yet -
- That they're daughter's been took
I went to the back, where I knew she would be
With arms wide open waiting for me
Now we gotta see, just us two
When we make love here's what I do
CHORUS
I took a back trail
- To my baby's shack -
- I made my way right -
- up to the back - --
- I went over the meadow -
- And down by the brook -
- They don't know yet -
- That they're daughter's been took
